What is Accident and Sickness Cover?

Accident and Sickness insurance will provide you income protection if you are too sick to work or if you are injured and unable to work. You will have to get a sign-off from your doctor to make an accident and sickness claim. If you are unable to work due accident or sickness (signed off by your doctor), you will receive a certain portion of your monthly income capped at AED 25,000 per month for the period you are unable to work or up to 6 months, whichever period is lesser from your Expat Income Protection Series 2 insurance policy. You will get one thirtieth of the monthly benefit stated in your policy document, for every day that you are unable to work due to accident or sickness up to maximum period of 180 days.

What is Waiting Period?

Waiting period is the time you have to wait to start receiving claims from your accident or sickness unemployment insurance, after you have become ill or had an accident and signed off by your doctor. The accident and sickness waiting period for Expat Income Protection Series 2 insurance is 14 days. In other words, you will receive monthly benefits if you are continuously unable to work due to accident or sickness for 14 days.

What are Pre-existing conditions?

Your accident and sickness insurance policy may not cover illnesses that you had been diagnosed with or have received treatment for the illness in the last 12 months before you buy the policy. These illnesses are known as pre-existing medical conditions. You should provide details of your medical history to your insurer. If you fail to disclose full medical information to your insurer, your insurer may subsequently reject your claims. You should also note that your Expat Income Protection Series 2 insurance policy makes you eligible to make claims even for pre-existing conditions if you have been free from its symptoms (signed off by your doctor) and have not consulted any doctor nor received any treatment for or in connection with it, for a 2 year period prior to your claim. You should disclose pre-existing medical conditions to your insurer at the time of buying the policy.
